Story Submissions

When our slush-pile is open for business, Darwin’s Evolutions welcomes the submission of short-format specualtive fiction prose (17,500 words or less), new or previously published.  We judge stories by how entertaining they are, not by whether their content meets certain idiotlogical or witwawary standards.

Depending on the receipt of acceptable stories and available cash flow, we will attempt to publish a new story every week.  Stories published in the blogzine become elegible for inclusion in a possible quarterly omnibus journal.

Speculative fiction, for our purposes, is limited to the broad scopes of the science fiction or fantasy genres.  This does not include the overt ”horror” shock genre, although an acceptable story may contain elements of “horror” within it.

Sexual content, violence, etc., should be constrained to a “P.G. 13″ level.

“Activist” fiction that trots out a virtual soapbox for some political/sociological/religious point of view rather than telling a good, character and plot-driven story is not welcome.

“Literary” fiction (i.e. fiction written specifically to appeal to iconclastic gatherings of self-appointed intelligentsia rather than people who enjoy reading speculative fiction for entertainment) is not welcome.

Compensation for publishing accepted stories in the blogzine is $25, flat rate, for the right to publish the story electronically.  If your story is accepted for an omnibus (print-on-demand) issue, a separate per-word contract will be negotiated.  All stories and unnegotiated rights remain the property of their respective authors.
